Are you ready for a new console?

I'm sure not!

It just doesn't feel time to even think about new consoles yet. I love my PS3, 360, and Wii, I mean sure there will probably be better visuals, more functions, and more innovation. However, if you take a closer look, games that are currently being released are looking better all the time.

So why get excited for a new system?

If we haven't reached the capacity of the current systems why rush so fast for another one? I think it may be because people get bored with the same system over a period of time, despite the fact that the 360/PS3 haven't reached the graphics capacity yet. I'm not 100% positive on the 360, but I know that's the fact for the PS3. I just didn't want to sound biased toward one system.

One of the cons of having an official system announcement

With all the GTA V (GTA 5) news overriding the web, if a new system gets announced, what if Rockstar suddenly decided to make the game toward the new system, in order to increase launch sales for the system? I know that's highly unlikely, but if it ever happened what would you do? Would you save money for the new system or would you play on the current system until the new price came down? Speaking of that, there is still talk of annihilating used games.

Used games are what keep gamers coming back

Sure the publisher doesn't get any money for the sale of the game, but what about all the new copies that the used game companies acquire? What will happen to all the gamers who don't have/have a terrible internet connection? Not to mention the DLC that people are going to download, such as the all the map packs to stay up-to-date, or even the online pass.

Online passes may not be as bad as you think

Some are worse then others for sure, but most are completely optional. For example; if you buy a shooter and know the online part is mostly dead, why buy the online pass? You can just get DLC additions if you want, or just stick with the game's core elements.

SPLIT-SCREEN NEEDS TO BE REQUIRED

I miss the days where games weren't focused around an online community, where the community was in a forum or on a website, the days were split-screen was in practically EVERY game, where the back of case said players 1-4, instead of players 1: Online 2-16. I know I don't have the cash to buy 3 additional TVs, 3 additional systems, and 3 additional copies of the game. I also know my friends won't have every game I have. Why are they taking us away from the true social interaction of defeating your friend side-by-side?

There's probably some stuff I left out, so leave any questions as well.

Nintendo: Wii U

I just read a blog post on IGN.com (Article) and they were talking about how the Wii U might keep up with the PS3's and Xbox 360's Hardware power.

As I was further reading I saw that the president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, mentioned

"...significant costs are being devoted to the Wii U’s GamePad controller, and to devote as much time and money to Wii U’s processing power would have resulted in an extremely pricey system."

Then he said, "“In other words, we think that the way that the various console manufacturers are allocating their budgets to the hardware is different from the way that we allocate our budget to the hardware. Ultimately, we’re looking to maintain a price point for the Wii U that is reasonable in comparison to the value to be offered.” (Quote & Article)

Is Nintendo going to go the cheap route or are they going to go back to the roots of the N64 and NES?

I would love to see that durability comeback. I still play my N64 to this day and it works PERFECTLY! Why are modern systems overheating, breaking down, or just randomly dying? The older consoles still work to this day!

Why change a formula that works?

I know that there are more fragile and delicate parts involved now, but still there's got to be a way to bring that reliability back.

This is the first time I actually involved quotes, I couldn't think of a better way to say it. I'm going to go contact the author of that article right now to see if it is ok to use.

The Wii U Pro Controller

What are your thoughts on the Wii U Pro Controller? Xbox ripoff? Is Nintendo losing their controller innovation?

I honestly think the Wii U controller is a significant copy of Xbox, however I believe one of the thumb sticks are in the wrong place.

How are games going to be played on that? Maybe their games will be mostly thumb stick controlled, it's a possibility.

This is the least original controller design by Nintendo I have ever seen! I remember when Nintendo was never one to follow in the footsteps of its competitors in both system design and controller design. Of course I'm talking about the era I grew up with (N64 and above). Their controllers were completely different with each console, it was really fun to see what they would come up with next. This controller however disappoints me.

In terms of console design, not functionality just design, the GameCube will always be number one in my book, it was the most durable of its generation, the smallest, and had the smallest game discs. The only smaller discs I've seen are UMDs.

What do you think?

Downloadable only games: A Scare Tactic

The Reason

If you follow gaming as close as I have, by now you have heard that the next gen consoles may not have disc drives. The reason behind this is to prevent piracy of games. Is it really going to stop piracy?

NO

Piracy will always exist, it will always happen. Remember Megaupload? Yeah, they shut it down. How many other free file sharing sites are there out there? Piracy can never be stopped, you know someone is going to find a way to pirate games with downloads only. Even right now, there is gamesharing.

Gamesharing is very convenient and a money saver if you use it what it's supposed to be used for. However how many people actually do that? If you go on Bing, you will find so many people offering to gameshare for something in return. See what I'm getting at? It can't be stopped, unless games stop being made all together, and we all know that isn't going to happen.

Why is it a "Scare Tactic"

If games were going to be download only, there would be no midnight launches of upcoming games. They could easily do that right now, yet they continue to make games. Sure, it'll look cheaper on the store, until you find out you have to pay for an online pass. That is where they are going to get you for money, they will be able to create games cheaper but charge the same price. In the end of all this nonsense, if Download only really is going to happen, they would've stopped making game discs by now. Like I said before, you can't replace physical merchandise.

4.5D

Lately, I've been talking to a new Gamer friend of mine I found on MyYearbook.com (Soon to be MeetMe.Com) and an Interesting topic came up; 4.5D.

What the heck is 4.5D? What will it use? Will it reinvent gaming? Will it catch on? Will it destroy Motion Gaming Peripherals? Will it ever be possible? Will I look like an idiot doing it?

That's a lot of questions, there are probably many more (don't hesitate to comment with more questions and pick my brain a bit).

What the heck is 4.5D?

This is the next step. We saw how 3D movies exploded into theaters, We've all been in some sort of simulator or 4D movie, Such as a Rollercoaster simulator in an amusement park, or the It's A Bug Life 4D Movie is Disneyland. Imagine actually moving around, using your world as a giant videogame. Obviously, free movement only applies to certain games, I think it will mostly be used for shooters like COD or Battlefield. I'm sure the game industry will find out how to work around these obstacles to make everything 4.5D. For example: An ATV racing game can be a bit expensive but worth the experience. Have you ever wanted to race ATVs or Dirtbikes, but didn't have the money to haul it around and pay for entry fees? This will take the track that you use everyday, just drive around it once so the "system" can "memorize" the track for the AI. Then you pick the start/finish line, how many laps, and other options.

What will it use?

If everything goes well, I think it'll be able to be used with the Google Glasses, maybe a custom peripheral. If it uses Google Glasses you wouldn't have to worry about WiFi, because what I've seen from the trailer is that it uses a 3G or 4G signal. Eventually, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo will make their own type of "Google Glasses", maybe even have their own version at the launch.

Will it reinvent gaming?

I strongly believe that it will. Have you ever played a game and thought, "I can jump over that" or "I totally killed him"? I know I have so many times. I would love to be able to actually do things that weren't programmed into the game, such as picking up a rock and bashing someone in the head or my own kung fu type moves. Fighting games will be significantly different. Truly using your environment to your advantage is my kind of game. Imagine if you were against an AI opponent in Tekken and you wanted to use a hammer, find a hammer in the physical world, pick it up, the game will automatically render it and its properties, then take a few swings. Most of these games will be rated M but, Mature games are always more fun. For the kids, there could be a Wildlife game, Kind of like Kinectimals, the only difference is the animals are running around you, nuzzling your leg. Parents would love it because, there is no mess to deal with, no allergies, and no responsibility. You want a pet Tiger? Go ahead and get it.

Will it catch on?

It will take a good chunk of time for people to get used to it, but Yes I do believe it will catch on. I think it'll do extremely well with kids in school. There will be mini games, pre installed, that allow you to harmlessly mess with the classroom environment differently. Imagine if you could redesign your classroom with YOUR artwork, just take pictures of items around your room to scan, or buy them from the installed store.

Will it ever be possible?

With how fast technology is evolving, and the fact that most of the stuff in Bill Gates' House isn't even available to the public yet, I think it will be possible, but it won't be for a VERY long time.

Will I look like an Idiot doing it?

I guess it really depends on what game and where you are. If you play a fighting game in the middle of a busy park, then yeah you will look like an idiot. But, if you are doing a game where you get points for how many steps you take, and you get to spend those points towards rewards. It will look more natural to onlookers.

BONUS QUESTIONS

Will it look dorky?

No, it will be mostly hidden, or it will be like stylish sunglasses hooked to a backpack.

What will it use for power?

It will be solar powered with a backup battery, or it will take D-batteries as a backup and a primary rechargeable battery.
