4.5D

Lately, I've been talking to a new Gamer friend of mine I found on MyYearbook.com (Soon to be MeetMe.Com) and an Interesting topic came up; 4.5D.

What the heck is 4.5D? What will it use? Will it reinvent gaming? Will it catch on? Will it destroy Motion Gaming Peripherals? Will it ever be possible? Will I look like an idiot doing it?

That's a lot of questions, there are probably many more (don't hesitate to comment with more questions and pick my brain a bit).

What the heck is 4.5D?

This is the next step. We saw how 3D movies exploded into theaters, We've all been in some sort of simulator or 4D movie, Such as a Rollercoaster simulator in an amusement park, or the It's A Bug Life 4D Movie is Disneyland. Imagine actually moving around, using your world as a giant videogame. Obviously, free movement only applies to certain games, I think it will mostly be used for shooters like COD or Battlefield. I'm sure the game industry will find out how to work around these obstacles to make everything 4.5D. For example: An ATV racing game can be a bit expensive but worth the experience. Have you ever wanted to race ATVs or Dirtbikes, but didn't have the money to haul it around and pay for entry fees? This will take the track that you use everyday, just drive around it once so the "system" can "memorize" the track for the AI. Then you pick the start/finish line, how many laps, and other options.

What will it use?

If everything goes well, I think it'll be able to be used with the Google Glasses, maybe a custom peripheral. If it uses Google Glasses you wouldn't have to worry about WiFi, because what I've seen from the trailer is that it uses a 3G or 4G signal. Eventually, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo will make their own type of "Google Glasses", maybe even have their own version at the launch.

Will it reinvent gaming?

I strongly believe that it will. Have you ever played a game and thought, "I can jump over that" or "I totally killed him"? I know I have so many times. I would love to be able to actually do things that weren't programmed into the game, such as picking up a rock and bashing someone in the head or my own kung fu type moves. Fighting games will be significantly different. Truly using your environment to your advantage is my kind of game. Imagine if you were against an AI opponent in Tekken and you wanted to use a hammer, find a hammer in the physical world, pick it up, the game will automatically render it and its properties, then take a few swings. Most of these games will be rated M but, Mature games are always more fun. For the kids, there could be a Wildlife game, Kind of like Kinectimals, the only difference is the animals are running around you, nuzzling your leg. Parents would love it because, there is no mess to deal with, no allergies, and no responsibility. You want a pet Tiger? Go ahead and get it.

Will it catch on?

It will take a good chunk of time for people to get used to it, but Yes I do believe it will catch on. I think it'll do extremely well with kids in school. There will be mini games, pre installed, that allow you to harmlessly mess with the classroom environment differently. Imagine if you could redesign your classroom with YOUR artwork, just take pictures of items around your room to scan, or buy them from the installed store.

Will it ever be possible?

With how fast technology is evolving, and the fact that most of the stuff in Bill Gates' House isn't even available to the public yet, I think it will be possible, but it won't be for a VERY long time.

Will I look like an Idiot doing it?

I guess it really depends on what game and where you are. If you play a fighting game in the middle of a busy park, then yeah you will look like an idiot. But, if you are doing a game where you get points for how many steps you take, and you get to spend those points towards rewards. It will look more natural to onlookers.

BONUS QUESTIONS

Will it look dorky?

No, it will be mostly hidden, or it will be like stylish sunglasses hooked to a backpack.

What will it use for power?

It will be solar powered with a backup battery, or it will take D-batteries as a backup and a primary rechargeable battery.

SCAM ALERT

                                            Fit For Life/Direct Youth Marketing

I recently ventured out to do some door to door sales, and came across this Ad.

I thought it sounded pretty good since they were paying for my bus ticket from Bellingham, WA to Oakland, CA. I called the number and got directed to the Co-Owner. After talking with her and figuring everything out, I got my travel plans all set up.

I left at 8:55 PM Thursday, April 12th, 2012. I arrived in Oakland, CA at 1:00 Am Saturday April 14th, 2012. Only to find out my driver has been waiting at the wrong location. I waited an additional hour, outside around some pretty sketchy people for my ride to show up. My ride then showed up and took me to the hotel.

I didn't have high expectations for the hotel, but I didn't expect it to be this bad either. The driver opened the door to my room which was clearly marked "non-smoking". I was greeted with a fume of cigar smoke exiting the room, both of my roomates were smoking cigars, in an unventilated room. I talked with my roomates, telling them I was a non-smoker and always have been. They said they would respect it, but continued smoking freely in the room. I crawled into the bed and fell asleep.

In the morning I had the day off because I arrived so early. They all went to work, leaving me alone in the hotel for a good 8 hours with no contact or transportation. I stayed in my room airing it out all day, so I could get rid of as much of the smokey air as I could. Once they arrived at 10 PM, they both lit up cigars and started to party. I stayed for a bit to get to know everyone. Then all of a sudden they brought out a pipe and started smoking weed, that's when I left the room until they finished.

The next day everyone was smoking, weed filled every room, there were at least 5 bowls that I saw smoked that day. Everyone was smoking, with no way to get away. Needless to say I spent 90% of the day outside that day. They kept inviting me into their rooms, but I kept telling them I was a non-smoker.

I met the newly appointed manager of the "crew" that night, and his assistant. I entered the room, and they were both smoking weed passing it around the room. Then the owner arrived and chewed everyone out (except me) for using meth, and especially the manager for being high on meth and driving around. Then the cops showed up for a fight in the hotel room next door, we packed up our stuff as fast as we could at 11 PM and drove an hour to Stockton, CA.

On Monday, I went out on my first "drop" after breakfast at Jack In The Box. It was a nice experience to meet a lot of nice people, but the person I was with was way to pushy. We followed a guy from one end of the street to the other! Another door we talked to a nice lady about it, but once she saw the price ($63 for one magazine subscription) she said no, we stayed at the door for an additional 10 minutes, until she got mad and almost chased us away.

I was paid daily, about $20 (I never made any sales as I was in training). People who did sale were making about $70 per day, as you get $10 per sale. The sales were the most dishonest thing I have ever seen in my life. Each "employee" is entered into a points race, (you get all the application forms once you get there, saying you are a self contractor) the only problem is the facts changed between every person who taught me the spiel. sometimes it was 40 guys and girls, other times it was 12, sometimes there was a scholarship, sometimes there wasn't. The list goes on and on.

On Tuesday, I went on a drop by myself. I worked the whole street with straight no's, becuase I'm an honest person and didn't believe in lying to get a sale. I never saw any magazines or paperwork get sent out to send magazines to the "troops". The big contest that they say they are in is a YCA contest, which stands for Youth Communication Awards. Spiels mostly include getting a college scholarship, they aren't "Allowed" to give the address to the company for "Safety Reasons", they will say they live in the neighborhood, they will say they will come back or that they will do chores for you, they also say that this is the only time you can do it.

The "crew" was constantly yelling at each other and creating drama, they were stealing money from the company. They kept telling me that things don't run this way. When we went to pick up the last person, we got pulled over with 12 people in an 8 passenger Ford Excursion. The cop let us go, to get our last person and get out of there. After that I found out that, the Owner of the company has warrants out for his arrest and that there was weed in the car! I also found out that they don't get county permits, so we were constantly avoiding the cops.

The next day I went on one drop and said I no longer wanted to work there anymore, so at 2 PM they dropped me off at a little shopping complex and said, "We will pick you up at the end of the day". I waited around until 8:30, people started getting worried for me, they kept asking me if I was alright. That was kind of suspicious to me, one guy pulled up and offered me a ride, I refused. He gave me his number in case they never showed, at around 8 he showed up again, parked next to me and offered to keep me warm.

I now trusted the guy, and I got in his jeep. He was a very kind guy, and we sat and talked in his Jeep. at 8:45 PM I called and they said that they were in a "situation" and that it was getting wrapped up. At 9:30 they showed up, I was very lucky I wasn't in the car because, what I found out might shock you.

I found out they got pulled over, and caught with weed in the car, as a result of that EVERYONE got a misdemeanor for weed possession! Earlier in the day I organized a shuttle to pick me up at 10:30 PM. The driver got the time wrong and showed up at 10:00 PM, while in the car I had to sort everything out. Luckily the Shuttle driver waited around for me until 11:00 PM. I packed my stuff as fast as I could, said goodbye to a few people, and booked it out of there!

P.S they are NO longer in california, they are in Oregon working their way toward Seattle, WA!

Here is proof that the owner,Kelby Durand Tovar, has an OPEN warrant in Garland,TX.

(Here is another ad from them that just popped up yesterday, they are still advertising to be in California, yet they are probably in Seattle by now. I will keep you posted if any more ads show up)

DO NOT APPLY TO THIS COMPANY! UNLESS YOU DON'T MIND LYING, ARE VERY 4/20 FRIENDLY, AND DON'T MIND THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING ARRESTED!

I Am Alive

I recently bought I Am Alive, and I was very impressed with it, there were a few flaws but I will get to that later.

I was really impressed with the stamina system, you start out with full stamina and health of course, but there is a twist, if you run out of stamina you can use something called last chance. That burns down your stamina capacity. For example if you are climbing and you think you can make it with the very little stamina, go for it, just keep in mind when you are finished you will have less stamina capacity.

The climbing was put together very well, it was great to just climb up scaffoldings and try to find a way up to the top before your stamina completely wore out. I also loved sliding down a steep embankment and having to roll over to reach a rail that I could grab on to.

The fighting scenarios were extremely tense. You had a few decisions to make during the fight scenes, and each choice had a different impact on how the fight would turn out. I really loved pointing a gun at a guy, telling him to back up, only to push him down into the deep pit.

However, there was really only one action if you wanted to *struggle kill* someone and it did tend to get repetitive. Sometimes it was hard to figure out where to go, especially in the heavy dust. The climbing also was all predetermined points, it felt like you were following a system without a ton of freedom.

Overall, even though this games was only about 5 hours and didn't have that replayability value for me, I was really impressed and had a lot of fun with it.

Are Unbreakable Game Discs Possible?

Remember those indestructible cartridges? I do, and I miss them. I miss not having to worry about a scratched game disc, and just blowing into the cartridge so it would work. I also loved getting  used N64 game and using the previous owners' game data. It really helped with Pokemon Stadium. Not to mention not having to worry about my system getting clogged with all my game saves. What if your saved data was on your disc, and only your DLC was on your system? Of course you always have the option of copying your save data of the disc if you choose.

It would be interesting if they could make UMD style game discs for consoles. Something new, because graphics can only get better for so long. After that it will be innovation and playability.

Something else I just thought of was Barcode Games. Instead of putting a disc in your system, just scan the code. The only issue that could come with that is Piracy issues, but I'm sure someone will figure out how to secure it.

How to Buy Systems..........Differently

Everyone loves customized systems, I'm not talking about the inside technical mods. I'm talking about the casing, the thing everybody sees first. What if the next system you buy is completely yours?

Instead of places like Gamestop or Best Buy selling new systems, how about each company has its own console store? You walk into the store, and hop onto one of the design stations. You choose which model you want, and what casing style. If you want to design your own from scratch, you can design it at one of the art stations there or design it online at home. If you design it at the store, you get it handed to you within minutes, however if you design it at home, it will be a day or two before it is in your hands. Now i'm not saying retail stores will never sell systems again, I'm just saying they will sell used systems only.

Each store will have its own theme, such as Sony going with a black and neon type atmosphere, Microsoft going toward the green and bright atmosphere, and lastly Nintendo with the bright multicolored atmosphere. What do you think? Will it ever happen?

Answer in the comments :)

Will the Controller "Die Out"?

I don't think it ever will, everyone is going to want a controller, something to hold. I remember trying some Eyetoy games back on the PS2 and it just felt so awkward.

I always wanted that controller feel, strategically tapping the buttons and moving the sticks versus flailing my arms around like an idiot. Sure, the Kinect is amazing with not having to use a controller at all, but do you really want to play a racing game with your arms held up holding nothing? On a brighter note the Kimect did make exercising fun again, however I just think to play a game some type of controller will always be needed.

I don't think the Kinect should even try fighting games because, who wants to be in a fighting stance with his/her head turned to the right or left the whole time? I know I wouldn't. As I said in my last post I think the move will overtake Nintendo if it had a higher quality camera, and a unique design specifically by Sony.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree? Disagree? Why?

How to Improve the Move

This is going to be an insanely short post (which explains the 2 other posts today). Because, really there is only 2 things to Improve the Move, A new camera and Different Controller Style.

I don't see any difference between the PS2 Eyetoy and the PS3 Eyetoy do you? I was playing Eyepet one day, and I noticed that an extremely crisp creature was projected on my floor using what looked like, an iPod touch camera that was zoomed in too far. You can just imagine the quality of the room on the screen. I do like that you can do wide angle or not, but why not have it automatically detect what it needs?

What about those controllers? Look familiar? Yeah, a Wireless Wii controller with some balls on the top, that's all it is. I guess you can also say it's a more curved and easily slippable design too, when I had it, I almost dropped it so many times.

If you don't believe me you can try the Playstation Move for yourself.
